There are vast difference in the pec deck machines and the normal machine flyes. These major at the end show that the pec deck machines have a better way of working muscles and are in a better position when it comes to the safety of the weightlifter. The pec deck not only provides a more advanced way of working muscles and increased level of safety but has been proven to give better and faster results.

In a pec deck machine, the pec deck flyes allow you to place your upper arms on the arm pads and the elbows horizontally in line with the shoulders of the weightlifter. The arms of the weightlifter are parallel to the floor. In this position, the back of the weightlifter is leaning against the back pads. When performing the exercise, the contraction forces the arms to be brought together to meet in front of the weightlifters chest, squeezing his pectoralis muscles which are located in the chest area. The position is held for at least 2 second before the arms are allowed to return to its starting position. The weightlifter has to ensure that the weight stacks do not touch the base surface.

In the normal machine flyes, the weightlifter is bound to adjust his seat to position where the shoulders, the elbows and the hands are all in line and the upper arms of the weightlifter are parallel to the floor. With the back of the weightlifter leaning against the back pad of the seat, the arms are brought together towards the front of the chest whilst contracting the chest muscles. In this case, the same muscle area targeted in the pec deck flye, the pectoralis muscle. The elbows of the weightlifter should be a little bent pointing towards the back of the weightlifter and the back should be erect against the back pad. When the arms are brought together in front to meet, the elbows have to remain bent throughout the movement. The muscles are squeezed and the position is held for at least 2 seconds before the arms are slowly allowed to return to its starting position.

The obvious difference between these two exercise is the range of motion. With the pec deck exercise, a more enhanced ROM is acquired at the end position. An overview of the situation does not appear to give this impression. But when comparing, a conclusion can be found. Compare the positions of the elbows in these two exercises. In the machine flye and in the pec deck flye, the distance and room when both elbows come together are different. When the machine flye is performed, the elbows have a huge gap in between when the elbows are returned to the starting position. With that in mind, lets consider how much room there exist and is permitted when the pec deck flye is performed. There is barely enough room between the two elbows. Notice the difference now? That is how much greater the ROM is for the pec deck machine as compared to a normal machine flye.
